My Story
I was born in 1960 and am a 3rd generation wood worker from both sides of my family. I grew up working after school in my dad’s cabinet shop. The first thing I was allowed to do was brush the finish on the interior portions of the cabinets at age 7. I remember pouting many times when my father did not allow me to work at certain tasks because of my age. By the time I was 9, I was able to hand sand cabinet doors and install drawer slides and hinges. By the time I was 12, I was using the table saw and other equipment and built my own personal bed room suite when I was 14.
After graduating from 3 years of high school in 1977 and going through 1 year of of college, I decided to go to work full time for my father at his “Wickey Custom Cabinet Shop” in DeSoto County, Florida in 1978.
In 1986 I started my own cabinet shop in Sarasota, Florida. After 3 years I sold my building and moved to East Tennessee. From 1986 to the year 2000 I mostly did kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities, entertainment centers and custom items – from cabinetry installed in a private jet to woodwork in boats and RVs.
After the year 2000 I started building custom log furniture such as log beds, end tables, dressers, kitchen tables, coffee tables and other custom items.
Within the last 5 years I have been doing customized wall treatments, commercial and residential, along with many customized wood items. I have also made many signs over the years for people and I have a machine now that will engrave signs. I want to start doing more custom signs and also create a line of patriotic sayings on wood for sale.
